In Sacramento, CA, goats are helping the fire department clear brush and weeds, ultimately preventing fires. They send herds of goats to eat the brush that is likely to cause any fires. They are actually credited with stopping a potential wind-whipped ten-acre brush fire from reaching the nearby Riva Condominium complex. The goats had been there in March and created a fire break that kept the fire from spreading. They are continuing to send goats to eat the brush as this technique is providing very effective.
