The Power of Work
Dallas, TX - Every year, millions of individuals are forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, violence or human rights violations. Many of those individuals who are displaced end up in refugee programs in the United States, struggling to rebuild lives that have been upended by conflict in their home countries.
Stephanie Giddens is working on the front lines to assist refugees who find themselves in Dallas TX through her organization, Vickery Trading Company which teaches women to sew. VTC works to provide refugee women with a skill set that will enable them to earn a living wage as they work to assimilate into the United States. Additionally, VTC works to build language skills through community and friendship.
VTC’s approach is holistic in nature. Stephanie notes, “Our mission is to equip refugee women for long-term success and we do that through vocational training, personal development and fair wages.” VTC focuses on everything from setting up bank accounts and financial literacy to learning English and earning citizenship.
