The Power of Stories
Dallas, TX - Politics is downstream from culture. This is a simple way of saying that our politics and the leaders we choose to represent us are indicative of the direction the culture is heading and not the other way around. Our politics will always follow the direction of our culture. With this in mind, Ryan Sanders joins the Good Complex to talk about how Christians can do a better job relating to the culture.
Too often, Christians look to legislative methods to change the culture but change rarely comes through politics. In a pluralist society, an effort to change the culture could begin with better story-telling.
Tell better stories. The stories we tell make up a large part of how we relate to the culture and too often the stories Christians tell are rooted in fear. Fear is the currency of our age. It's almost impossible to turn on the television or log onto social media without being told what we need to be afraid of.
Perhaps Christians should shift their stance away from fear and toward grace. The world is a noisy place and the competition of ideas is fierce. Better stories are an important tool for changing the culture.
