Mum wants 20 defibrillators in hometown after son went into cardiac arrest and died
Last year, 18-year-old Jamie Rees collapsed in the early hours of New Year's Day. The nearest kit with a defibrillator was locked away in Jamie's old school so they could not use this to save him. His friends managed to keep him alive with CPR until he was transported to the hospital where he died 5 days later. Following the ambulance delays and the lack of defibrillators nearby, Jamie's family decided to start fundraising to get a defibrillator kit installed nearby. They asked for just one defibrillator, but they were able to buy 20 due to the amount of local support the family has received.
