Some residents in the Russian city of St Petersburg are helping refugees fleeing Ukraine as their country continues to destroy cities of Ukraine. Most of the time, Russian volunteers meet the refugees at railway stations, where they can then bring them home to host them in their apartments and help them find medicine, clothes, housing, and work. Others take refugees to a border with a neighboring EU country, such as Finland or Estonia, and help them leave the country. The UN estimates that 1.1 million Ukrainians have gone to Russia. All of these Russian volunteers are helping on their own time, without the help of the country.
